PUPILS in South Yorkshire have been getting on board a new Travel South Yorkshire website, and winning prizes in the process!
Following the launch of Onboard, Travel South Yorkshire’s new educational website, pupils from across South Yorkshire were invited to take part in a host of online competitions in the hope of bagging one of hundreds of pounds worth of prizes.
After being asked to completed puzzles and questionnaires, the competition saw three main prize winners across all year groups:
· Years 6-7: Declan Harvey (Wath Central Primary School) won £150 worth of vouchers for sports equipment
· Years 8-10: Rebecca Shiel (Notre Dame High School) won £150 worth of Meadowhall vouchers
· Year 11+: Olivia Sendel (Notre Dame High School) won a HP Mini Netbook
South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive Director General, David Brown, said: “I am delighted for winners Declan, Rebecca and Olivia. The Onboard site is a fantastic tool for both pupils and teachers in South Yorkshire, which puts an emphasis on making learning about public transport fun and engaging. We’ve had a great response from users since its launch and look forward to continuing to ensure that pupils’ perception of public transport is positive.”
The website has been created to help make young people more confident and aware of how to safely use public transport. Since its launch in November, thousands of pupils from year groups six to eleven have been logging on to use the interactive quizzes, videos and other useful features and links.
Years 8-10 winner Rebecca said: “The Onboard site was easy to use and understand; I wouldn’t change anything about it.”
Parents, carers and teachers have their own sections too with help and advice on getting their child to school safely and where to go for further information.
