Free coffee for tram-goers

05 March 2012

Lucky off-peak tram-goers in Sheffield can enjoy free coffee this week to promote a special off-peak day ticket that is available throughout March.

Travel South Yorkshire and Stagecoach Supertram have teamed up to offer the tram only day-ticket for just £2.80 for those travelling between the hours of 10am and 4pm on Monday to Friday between 5 and 30 March 2012. This is a discount of over 20% compared to the usual day-ticket price of £3.70.

The coffee, served from a special bike, will be in Sheffield city centre, along with information about the ticket, plus the benefits of off-peak tram travel on:

  • Thursday 8 March from 10am until 4pm at Castle Square tram stop
  • Friday 9 March from 10am until 4pm at Cathedral tram stop

To promote off-peak tram travel, a competition has also been launched at travelsouthyorkshire.com/tram to give away £250 high street shopping vouchers and a monthly Megarider tram ticket valid on all Supertram services.

SYPTE Director of Customer Experience, David Young, said: "Travelling by tram outside of peak travel times is an easy and trouble-free way to get around Sheffield. It gives you more room to stretch, more room for the kids, and more room for your shopping bags. We’re delighted to work with Stagecoach Supertram to offer passengers this great ticket deal."

Stagecoach Supertram, Managing Director Margaret Kay, said: "With these good value fares, getting around Sheffield during the day has never been easier or better value. We hope people will take advantage of this offer by leaving their cars at home and taking our greener, smarter tram services instead."
