PASSENGERS are being reminded to check before they travel, as changes to South Yorkshire’s bus network come in from September.
Approximately a quarter of all services will see route or timetable revisions. Some local buses will benefit from increases in frequency and changes to improve reliability.
Transport providers said the changes, which mostly affect Sheffield and Doncaster, had come as a result of fewer passengers, increased running costs and reduced public transport funding to support bus services.
“We’ve worked hard with bus companies to protect the network and minimise the impact on passengers, which means a large proportion of services will not change.” SYPTE Director of Customer Services, Tim Taylor, said.
“We have made sure alternative transport links are available, wherever possible, but with fewer resources and rising costs the same level of bus coverage can’t be maintained. We are encouraging passengers to plan ahead and check for any changes to their service before they travel.”
Service information, timetables and route maps are available online at travelsouthyorkshire.com/servicechanges, at bus stops and on-board buses, in Interchanges and via Traveline on 01709 51 51 51. Changes to bus services in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster will take place during the weekend 31 August – 2 September.
