Sheffield City Region Transport Strategy
SYPTE is part of the South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan (SYLTP) partnership. The SYLTP partnership is made up of the four Local Authorities in South Yorkshire (Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield) and the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE).
Our transport strategy covers the Sheffield City Region, which includes the four districts of South Yorkshire and five districts in the East Midlands. The different parts of the Sheffield City Region function together as a single economic area.
Visit the South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan (SYLTP) website for more details.
LTP3 Implementation Plan
The implementation plan describes our main areas of transport investments from 2011 to 2015. It adds short-term delivery considerations to the list of priorities defined in the transport strategy.
Visit the South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan (SYLTP) website for more details.
Public Transport Action Plan
The Public Transport Action Plan (PTAP) forms a key component of the third South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan (LTP3). It sets out the actions that public transport partners will deliver over the next four years to support the achievement of key priorities set out in the Sheffield City Region (SCR) Transport Strategy. It is particularly focused on how public transport can support South Yorkshire’s economic, environmental and social aspirations. It includes the four separate strategies of bus, tram, train and Park & Ride that previously existed alongside the second LTP.

SYPTE Carbon Reduction Plan
The Carbon Management Plan is a five year plan which outlines the steps SYPTE will take to cut our carbon footprint by 40%. The plan was created in partnership with the Carbon Trust, targeting our consumption of energy, water, the amount of waste we produce and the carbon generated through staff travel. In addressing these areas of our business, SYPTE are demonstrating a commitment to the environment, supporting the delivery of LTP3 and will also save money through more responsible energy use. One of the largest projects within the plan is the replacement of all bus shelter lights to LEDs. On street infrastructure currently accounts for 30% of all our carbon emissions so tackling this source alone will bring huge carbon and financial savings.

SYPTE Travel Plan
A travel plan is a package of measures produced by employers to encourage their staff to use alternatives to single occupancy car use, whilst also promoting sustainable travel within an organisation.

High Speed Rail Updates
High Speed Rail is a national project proposed by the Government which will revolutionise Britain’s rail network. A new line will increase the capacity of the country’s rail network and free up space on the existing railways.
HS1 is the High Speed Rail link from London (St Pancras) to Europe through the Channel Tunnel. The proposed HS2 network will be built in two phases, the first being London to Birmingham. This network will be up and running by 2026.
Phase two of the Y-shaped network will be constructed by 2033 and will continue from Birmingham in two directions, one Western route to Manchester and an Eastern route to Leeds. The Eastern route has been allocated stations in the East Midlands and Sheffield City Region.
On 10 January 2010, following a six month public consultation, the Secretary of State for Transport, Justine Greening announced that the route from London to Birmingham would be constructed and further work on the Y-shaped network will be developed.

The SYPTE Developer Guide is a document which outlines SYPTE’s expectations of new developments in terms of public transport provision and accessibility.

Funding Applications
Local Sustainable Transport Fund
The South Yorkshire Partnership recently submitted a bid for funding a major investment programme through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund. The bid was submitted in three stages.
In April 2011 we applied for funding for a 'key component' of our sustainable transport programme. This bid was successful and the implementation of this component has already begun.
In June 2011 we submitted an initial proposal for funding the remaining part of the programme, which is much larger.
In December 2011 we submitted a detailed business case for the whole programme.
If this process is completed effectively, the fund will support an integrated investment along four geographical corridors in South Yorkshire. The four corridors were selected based on a combination of genuine local need and a high potential for carbon-friendly economic growth. This growth would be achieved through widening labour markets, increasing business productivity and facilitating sustainable commuting. Investments include:
- bus priority
- 'Jobconnector' bus services
- cycle routes
- upgrade of tram stops
- rail-based Park & Ride
- promotion of electric vehicle use
- infrastructure to unlock urban regeneration
- training, marketing and travel planning
Visit the South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan (SYLTP) website for more details.
Better Bus Area Fund
We have also been awarded millions of pounds to make buses quicker, smarter and smoother. In March 2012 the Government announced that it awarded SYPTE £4.91 million from the Better Bus Area Fund to make buses quicker through new bus priority measures, smarter through multi-operator smartcards and smoother due to improved traffic flows.
The funding will be targeted on the main employment areas in South Yorkshire and aims to significantly improve access to jobs and services. It should also allow for 1,225,000 more bus passenger trips a year and save 756 tonnnes of carbon as a result of reduced boarding times for all bus users in South Yorkshire.
Corporate Equality Scheme
SYPTE takes equality and diversity very seriously and is committed to offer support at an exemplary standard. As employers we aim to ensure that there is no prejudice or discrimination against any protected group including gender, disability, age, sexuality, race, religion and sexual orientation.
SYPTE’s Equality Group has produced an ‘Our Commitment to Equality’ document. The document reiterates the promises we’ve made and will adhere to, confirms our initiatives, and the services and support we provide. Follow the link below to view Our Commitment to Equality.
