LUCKY shopper Kath Cully from Gleadless got on track to bag a tram-tastic top prize of £250 high street shopping vouchers this week in a competition run by Travel South Yorkshire and Stagecoach Supertram.
The travel companies teamed up to run the competition to promote a special off-peak tram day-ticket that gave passengers a discount of over 20% compared to the usual price of £3.70. The ticket was valid for those travelling by tram in Sheffield between 10am and 4pm from Monday to Friday in March.
As part of the campaign, potential off-peak tram-goers also enjoyed free cups of coffee served from a special bike, and were surprised by a visit from superheroes at Cathedral and Castle Square tram stops.
Kath was the lucky winner drawn at random from hundreds of competition entries for the top prize. She said: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out that I had won. I’m really happy! I’m going to spend the vouchers on a new flat-screen TV.”
Competition runner up David Culver (50) also won a monthly Megarider tram ticket in the competition, which is valid on all Supertram services.
SYPTE Director General, David Brown, and Stagecoach Supertram Commercial Manager, Nigel Wragg, presented Kath with her prize on 10 May.
David said: “We’re delighted to have been able to work with Stagecoach Supertram on providing customers with such a great ticketing offer, and to present Kath with such a fantastic prize. SYPTE has an ongoing commitment to provide sustainable transport and Sheffield's tram network is very popular - offering a quick, green and convenient way to get around outside of peak travel times.”
Nigel said: "I am delighted to be handing Kath her prize today and to have worked alongside the SYPTE in promoting our off-peak great value tram services. We will continue to provide affordable and reliable services to attract even more people on to greener, smarter transport."
