New and improved public transport tickets in South Yorkshire

03 September 2013

  • New one-day travel ticket SYConnect Day will offer unlimited travel on buses and trams in South Yorkshire for £6
  • Cost of TravelMaster Day tickets reduced by 8% to £7.20

Bus and tram travellers can benefit from changes to public transport tickets in September thanks to new and improved products from TravelMaster.

A brand new ticket called SYConnect Day is to be introduced, which offers unlimited travel across South Yorkshire for just £6, whilst the price of the existing TravelMaster Day will be reduced from £7.80 to £7.20.

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) supports the introduction of the one-day tickets, which will be available from Sunday 8 September, and are valid to use on all buses (excluding night services) and trams in South Yorkshire. The TravelMaster Day ticket is now also valid on train services throughout the day, not simply after 0930.

These tickets are accepted by all operators in South Yorkshire and can be bought on most bus and tram services. SYConnect Day tickets will also be available to buy from Travel South Yorkshire Information Centres from late September.

TravelMaster Chairman, Duncan Roberts, said: “Many people have asked for a ticket valid on trains all day and with these changes we can now meet that. We hope that the reduced prices will enable more people to use public transport in these difficult economic times. “

SYPTE Interim Head of Customer Experience, Nigel Cairns, said: “These new and improved tickets are fantastic value and offer customers the opportunity for convenient, multi-modal travel around the whole of South Yorkshire.

“We work hard to understand and respond to our customers, bringing about new and improved products to best meet their needs. In doing so we strive to continue making South Yorkshire’s public transport offer even better. This is echoed in the recent figures that show a significant increase in the reliability of bus services and customer satisfaction.”

TravelMaster Day tickets will continue to be available to purchase onboard bus and tram services, as well as in staffed train stations and via conductors at unstaffed rail stations.

South Yorkshire Day Tripper and CitySwitcha60 tickets will no longer be available after 7 September 2013.
