TRANSPORT bosses are urging Doncaster commuters to leave the car at home and ‘Give the Bus a Go’ in a new sustainable transport scheme designed to cut the town’s congestion.
The Give the Bus a Go initiative has been launched by Travel South Yorkshire
, together with Inmotion!
and First South Yorkshire
, to encourage more people to try Doncaster’s buses and benefit the environment.
Give the Bus a Go street teams will be in Doncaster this October handing out vouchers that can be exchanged for a free First Day Doncaster ticket, giving car users the chance to try travelling by bus to work, college, shopping or football. Street team locations include:
• Frenchgate Shopping Centre on Saturday 12 October, 10am - 1pm
• Doncaster College on Monday 14 October, 11am - 2pm
• Doncaster Dome on Saturday 26 October, 3 - 6pm
Car users can plan their free bus journey, plus enter a competition to win £300 cash, at travelsouthyorkshire.com/givebusago
The Inmotion! project is delivered through South Yorkshire’s £24.6 million Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) - a partnership between South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield Councils that aims to make the journey to work simpler, easier or even healthier.
SYPTE Deputy Interim Director General, David Young, said: “Doncaster’s public transport network offers a convenient, stress free and more environmentally friendly way to get to work - especially when town is busy, parking is limited or when there’s an event or football match taking place.
“Together with our LSTF partners and First South Yorkshire, we’re delighted to be able to offer car users a free days travel by First bus in Doncaster as part of our Give the Bus a Go campaign.”
Managing Director for First in Doncaster, Ben Gilligan, said: "Our aim is to grow passenger numbers in Doncaster and we welcome the support of our partners to try new and innovative ways to achieve this."
