Exclusive deals for giving up the wheels

17 January 2014

SHEFFIELD residents are being urged to leave the car at home and give the bus a go, in return for great deals up for grabs from the Sheffield Bus Partnership.

‘Bus, Your Second Car’ gives car users the chance to take advantage of six exclusive, fortnightly leisure, food and entertainment offers in the Sheffield area, in return for trying the city’s buses or trams.

Deals on offer include a free day pass for Fitness Unlimited, free greyhound racing at Owlerton Stadium, plus 40% off a family swim and 50% off family ice-skating at Sheffield International Venues.
Bus, Your Second Car was launched by Sheffield Bus Partnership last Autumn to encourage more people to try the city’s buses and trams, in a bid to cut congestion and improve air quality.

Working together with city partners, this phase of the initiative also aims to encourage people to keep their new year’s resolutions, such as doing more exercise, getting out more, and spending time with the family.

Bus, Your Second Car offers can be claimed with a valid bus or tram ticket on the dedicated website, where car users can register for deals, print off vouchers, and find out more about the benefits of bus travel.

Sheffield Bus Partnership brings together South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), Sheffield City Council and bus operators First South Yorkshire, Stagecoach in Sheffield and Sheffield Community Transport in a bid to make travel in Sheffield more simple, flexible and convenient.

Speaking on behalf of Sheffield Bus Partnership, Managing Director for Stagecoach in Sheffield, Paul Lynch, said: “Sheffield’s public transport network offers a convenient, stress free and environmentally friendly way to get around. Benefits such as lower fares, improved punctuality and a wide range of tickets are making Sheffield’s bus network a viable alternative to taking the car.

“We’re delighted to be able to offer these exclusive deals to people who give the bus a go as part of our Bus, Your Second Car campaign.”
