Rotherham Bus Partnership will be showing its support for the local community and encouraging residents to give the bus a go at the Rotherham Show on Saturday 6th, and Sunday, 7th September.
Local operators First South Yorkshire, Stagecoach Yorkshire, Stagecoach East Midlands and TM Travel, alongside South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) and Rotherham Borough Council, have been encouraging local residents to try the bus since the launch of Rotherham Bus Partnership in July 2014.
Since its launch the bus network has seen more buses on many routes, the addition of new routes, extended services and the introduction of a new multi operator ticket, the Rotherham Connect, from £4.50 a day, which is valid for use on all buses in the Rotherham area.
To help people find out more about their local bus service, the Partnership will be supporting the Rotherham Show, the largest event in the town’s community calendar, which attracts around 80,000 people over the course of the weekend-long event.
Teams will be on hand at the event to give people more information about the town’s new bus scheme, as well as a balloon artist to entertain visiting children.
Working together, the Rotherham Bus Partnership aims to encourage people to try the town’s buses, in a bid to cut congestion, improve air quality and make travel in Rotherham more simple, flexible and convenient.
Paul Lynch, Managing Director at Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “Rotherham’s bus network offers a convenient, stress free and environmentally friendly way to get around. Benefits such as improved punctuality and a wide range of tickets are making the bus a viable alternative to the car.
“We’re delighted to be supporting the Rotherham Show, an event that people in the area really enjoy, and we hope that everyone has a wonderful time this year.”
David Young, SYPTE Deputy Interim Director General, said: “The Rotherham Show is a great local event. The Rotherham Bus Partnership comes together to support not only the Rotherham Show, but on a daily basis the local community through providing simple, flexible, convenient, and better value for money fares on your buses.”
Karl Battersby, Rotherham Borough Council’s Strategic Director of Environment and Development Services, said: “The Rotherham Show is the largest free event in the north of England so we think it is an ideal venue for the Rotherham Bus Partnership to showcase its new joined-up service. It will give residents the perfect opportunity to come and see for themselves how customers and Rotherham as a whole will benefit from the scheme.”
Ben Gilligan, Managing Director for First South Yorkshire, said: "We're delighted to support this year's Rotherham Show and promote the many benefits of the Rotherham Bus Partnership.
"The Partnership provides an extensive and great value for money network including frequent services to and from the show at Clifton Park.
"I'm sure the Show will be a great success and we look forward to working together with our partners and welcoming new customers on board."
