Cycling is the Quay
04 September 2014
STAFF from the local businesses located in and around Victoria Quays in Sheffield, have made the pledge to switch to two-wheels after signing-up for the popular Cycleboost scheme provided through the Inmotion! programme.
45 employees from a range of businesses including the Hilton Hotel and LivingWell Health Club, Nabarro Nathanson Solicitors, Ant Marketing Ltd and Lloyds Bank have ditched their cars and taken on the month-long Cycleboost challenge.
As well as a month’s free loan of a pedal bike, the Cycleboost scheme also offers weekly Dr Bike check-up sessions every Wednesday at Victoria Quays.
Victoria Quays is keen to make the canal basin into a hub for active travel as well as a base for recreation cycling.
Simon Currass a Director of Victoria Quays Management Company said: "We're really pleased to have Cycleboost at Victoria Quays. I'd really encourage cyclists to take a spin along the canal-side, enjoy the Quays while they're here, and take advantage of the chance to ask for expert advice on road-cycling and get a free bike health-check from the Cycleboost team."
As an extra incentive to taking on the Cycleboost challenge, two café’s - Victoria Junction and The Quays 1819 - are offering a 10% discount to cyclists who sign -up to the Cycleboost Ride Reward scheme. The Cycleboost Ride Rewards card offers discounts from a growing list of local shops and cafes, to keep cyclists fuelled and hydrated on their journeys.
Jill Lawson, Victoria Junction Café Owner, said: “I’m taking part in the scheme to get fit and re-gain my confidence as I’ve not cycled in years. I’m looking forward to enjoying time while cycling with my daughter who’s also signed-up. It’s a brilliant idea and I hope it will encourage more people to come and visit the Quays as it’s a lovely place. We’re offering all Ride Reward card holders 10% off tea, coffee and sandwiches. I’m going to be doing the training and if I enjoy it, I’ll definitely be purchasing the bike at the end of the trial period”.
There are many benefits to cycling; cyclists have been shown to be healthier and more productive than colleagues who arrive at work by alternative means*. Encouraging cycling to work also supports an organisation’s corporate sustainability strategy. Many South Yorkshire businesses are already taking responsibility for their employees’ physical and psychological wellness by signing up to Cycleboost schemes across South Yorkshire.
Inmotion! is a partnership here to help improve the travel options for employees of organisations and businesses across South Yorkshire by helping to make the journey to work simpler, easier and even healthier.
