South Yorkshire businesses are being given the chance to test drive a range of Plug-in electric vehicles at two Inmotion! Electric Vehicles events in October.
The events are part of a Government initiative to lower vehicle pollution by 28% before 2020, by encouraging the uptake and use of electrically charged vehicles.
Inmotion! together with project partners npower and Venson Automotive Solutions Ltd are inviting South Yorkshire businesses to come along and find out about the electric vehicle scheme as well as experience the latest Plug-in electric vehicles at showcase events on 8 and 9 October.
Businesses have the choice of date and location:
- Doncaster – Wednesday 8 October 2014 at 10am - 2pm, Doncaster Rovers FC, Keepmoat Stadium, DN4 5JW, OR
- Sheffield/Rotherham – Thursday 9 October 2014 at 10am - 2pm, AMP Technology Centre, Advanced Manufacturing Park, Brunel Way, S60 5WG
The events will provide an opportunity to discuss the scheme and the benefits of using a Plug-in vehicle, which include the reduction of carbon emissions, building company’s green credentials and helping the environment. Businesses are also be invited to test drive the vehicles offered through the scheme, including the Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe, Renault Twizy and Nissan NV200 van.
The Inmotion! Electric Vehicles scheme was established following a successful bid for £24.6 million from the Department for Transport’s ‘Local Sustainable Transport Fund’. Businesses could benefit from a grant of up to £10,500 for the flexible lease of a Plug-in van or £7,500 for a Plug-in car for up to 48 months, plus an additional grant of £500 towards the cost of installing a workplace charging point. Companies making the switch to Plug-in electric vehicles can also benefit from low running costs (approx. £2 for 80 miles), no road tax and a reduction in exhaust emissions to help create healthier and cleaner roads in our region.
Sheffield United’s Community Foundation was the first company to sign up to the scheme. Patrick Piearcey, Community Development Officer, said:
“We are delighted to be the first organisation in South Yorkshire to receive an electric vehicle as part of the Inmotion! Electric Vehicles programme. The Foundation has a minimum of three teams out delivering in Sheffield on a daily basis and all of the travel between sites is within city’s urban areas and undertaken in private vehicles.
“The electric vehicle will help reduce the Foundation’s carbon footprint and also fuel costs. This will help the Foundation to contribute to improving the air quality in the communities we work in, whilst allowing us to re-invest fuel related savings into community programmes. We consider this a win/win situation and are pleased to be part of a programme designed to improve the environment within Sheffield.
“Our ambition is to have a full fleet of electric vehicles that will enable us to dramatically reduce our carbon footprint as part of a sustainable transport strategy.”
