Travel smart this half term

29 October 2014

SMART South Yorkshire public transport users are finding their way to the fun this half term using a range of tickets on Smartcard.

Smart ticketing continues to advance in South Yorkshire, making travelling around the region even easier. Passengers can buy a range of 7 and 28 Day TravelMaster tickets on Smartcard - offering unlimited travel on bus, tram and train in South Yorkshire. Plus 7 and 28 Day CityWide tickets, for unlimited travel on Sheffield’s buses and trams.

Smartcard tickets are replacing scratch cards and paper tickets. New kiosks located at Travel South Yorkshire interchanges supply new, blank Smartcards and allow people who have one already to add another smart-enabled ticket to the card.

They provide an alternative to buying over the counter at a Travel Information Centre. More tickets will be made available in smart form and work to introduce online sales and a pay-as-you–go system is underway.

People can take a ‘selfie’ with South Yorkshire’s Smartcard mascot, Mr. Smart, and find out more about the scheme in Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster from 29 October to 1 November.

The phased smartcard project is delivered by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), YorCard, TravelMaster, and bus and tram operators. It is part funded by a £1.34m Better Bus Area Fund grant from the Department for Transport.
