New public transport ticket, timetable and information options introduced

25 February 2015

▪Paper timetable leaflets to be produced by operators for Interchanges
▪Smartcard tickets to be available for purchase from PayZone outlets
▪Five new cash ticket kiosks to be installed in Interchanges
▪MyTSY account option to be introduced to Travel South Yorkshire website

NEW public transport information, timetable and ticket options will be available for passengers in South Yorkshire from March 2015.

The move - which will include new paper timetable leaflets and ticket kiosks in Interchanges, making smartcards available for purchase at PayZone stores, and the introduction of MyTSY online ‘personal transport accounts’ - comes as South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) focuses on introducing a range of new, accessible and flexible products and services for its customers.

The Executive announced in January 2015 that a 10% budget reduction of £7.6 million meant that from the end of March 2015, printed paper timetables funded by SYPTE will be removed; cleaning in Interchanges and at bus stops and shelters will be reduced; and the Travel Choices service that provides public transport support for schools and businesses will cease.

Transport Information Centres at Sheffield, Meadowhall, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Interchange will also close as part of the plans.

But following discussions between SYPTE and public transport operators, First, Stagecoach, TM Travel and Stagecoach Supertram have agreed to produce paper timetable leaflets for some of their services, which will be available in Interchanges from 1 April.

Information kiosks in Interchanges will also be updated this summer, allowing passengers to use them to visit the travelsouthyorkshire.com website to plan their journey, view full timetables and live departures.

SYPTE is also expanding the number of places where people can buy tickets from.

A MyTSY personal account function is to be added to the Travel South Yorkshire website at the end of March 2015. Password protected, MyTSY will allow passengers to securely apply for concessionary passes and pay for annual tickets, make a service request and submit feedback, store personal journey plans and ticket options, and register for timetable updates and newsletters.

A range of 7 and 28 day TravelMaster tickets - offering unlimited travel on bus, tram and train in South Yorkshire - will also be available on smartcard from over 300 local PayZone outlets. Five new ticket kiosks that accept both card and cash will be installed in transport Interchanges, and work to introduce online sales and a pay-as-you–go system is underway.

SYPTE Deputy Interim Director General, David Young, said: “Public transport information is already available through many different means, and most people already choose to find out about the times of their buses, tram and train using the range of options already available.

“But by developing smarter and more efficient ways of providing information and tickets and expanding the ways they can be accessed, we can offer options that are both future-proof and provide a choice of touch-points that can be used when and where people want.

“Listening to our customers, we have been working hard to improve the digital information we provide, and the information we display at stops, in Interchanges and offer via Traveline, for those that are unable to access the internet. It’s an exciting time for SYPTE.”
