Businesses benefitting from free eco-driving scheme

29 April 2015

• Company drivers are more fuel efficient following South Yorkshire training scheme
• Free seminar launched in Rotherham to help businesses with fleet safety and legislation

SOUTH YORKSHIRE businesses are reporting savings on vehicle running costs after taking part in a local driving education scheme.

Inmotion!’s Eco-Business Driving programme has provided driver training to 60 local businesses and over 1,000 drivers since it launched in October 2013, helping them to save money, reduce emissions, increase driver safety and comply with current health and safety requirements for company vehicles and drivers.

Amey, who are delivering the Streets Ahead programme on behalf of Sheffield City Council, put 65 employees through the scheme and are seeing some significant savings.

Graeme Symonds, Amey Account Director, said: “The scheme allows us to train and educate our employees to ensure they are driving in a fuel efficient and effective way. We’re actually seeing somewhere between a 10%-15% reduction in fuel usage and we are reducing our carbon footprint.”

The Eco-Business Driving programme also provides training to help companies carry out safety checks on their vehicles, and advice for making sure they are serviced regularly and maintained. Plus guidance on how to carry out checks on drivers, including license checks, and effective accident prevention and management, should a company vehicle driver be involved in a road traffic collision.

A free Eco-Business Driving seminar will be held on 12 May 2015 at the Lifewise Centre in Rotherham, from 08.30am to 11.00am, to give companies guidance on the current ‘Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974’ and fleet compliance, to help ensure they are protecting their organisation and drivers. Businesses can book a place by emailing

The Eco-Business Driving programme is part of the Inmotion! scheme, delivered by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) and the four South Yorkshire local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.

The project is being led by Sheffield City Council’s Road Safety Team with support from Doncaster based eDriving Solutions Ltd.
