Sheffield Bus Partnership shortlisted for transport award
27 September 2016
Sheffield Bus Partnership has been shortlisted for Partnership of the Year in the first North of England Transport Awards, introduced to celebrate industry innovation and excellence across the region.
The recognition underpins a record of success for the multi-award winning Partnership between First South Yorkshire, Stagecoach Sheffield, Sheffield Community Transport, TM Travel, Sheffield City Council and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, which has combined various legal powers to function as the UK’s largest and most ambitious voluntary bus agreement since October 2012.
Hailed as a historic development by Government and a blue-print for industry best practice, Sheffield Bus Partnership’s minimum quality standards to bus operation and highway improvements have encouraged predictable journey times and increased punctuality year-on-year. Investment in Sheffield’s bus fleet to reduce emissions also means over 250 out of 400 buses will have been replaced by 2017.
Co-ordinated timetables and services have removed duplication and bus congestion on common routes, with resource savings reinvested to directly benefit customers by providing more attractive and cheaper multi-operator ticket options that offer price reductions of up to 23%.
A Sheffield Bus Partnership spokesperson, said: "We are delighted that Sheffield Bus Partnership has been shortlisted to win Partnership of the Year at the first North of England Transport Awards. It is testament to the dedication of all partners involved in the scheme and their commitment to ensure that the quality of city bus services is consistently improving.
“Sheffield is leading the way across the UK by working in Partnership to attract more people to use bus services, which is helping relieve congestion and improve the environment. The success of this unique approach is providing a bench-mark for Partnership options, replicated in the Buses Bill legislation that is currently going through parliament.”
The inaugural North of England Transport Awards, organised by Transport Times, will be presented in Manchester on 7 December. Sheffield Bus Partnership faces competition from seven other transport bodies from across Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and the East Midlands for the Partnership of the Year Award.
