Sheffield Mayor onboard to shape future of Supertram

25 October 2016

THE 120th Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Cllr Denise Fox, took to the city’s trams today (Monday 24 October) to talk to customers about their suggestions for Supertram’s next chapter.

The Lord Mayor was joined by senior figures from South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) and Stagecoach Supertram at Cathedral tram stop to hear what passengers would like to see from the Supertram network in the next thirty years, how it could be developed and fit with other transport.

Passengers, residents and businesses across Sheffield City Region are being invited by SYPTE to have their say on the Future of Supertram in a public consultation that runs until 30 October 2016. The short survey can be completed online at travelsouthyorkshire.com/tramfuture or in a paper form from an Interchange Customer Service Desk.

Over 1,500 consultation responses have been received so far. Feedback will help to inform recommendations for investment in Supertram services and the network, to shape long-term plans and build on the success of the popular system.

Supertram has been transporting local passengers and visitors to the region for 22 years (23 October 1995 saw the completion of the final phase of the project), connecting people to jobs, education, shopping and leisure in the city centre and beyond. As well as providing a clean, quiet, regular and reliable way to get around, Supertram has become an iconic part of Sheffield’s modern identity.
