Transport staff drive cash boost for local Cancer Charity

09 August 2017

A SHEFFIELD charity has received a £1,000 boost towards its fundraising target, thanks to the generosity of staff members at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE).

SYPTE began fundraising for Weston Park Cancer Charity last year, after an employee vote decided that the Cancer Charity would be at the forefront of the organisation’s charity focus for the next 12 months. Fundraising activities, including a charity Christmas tree, an Easter egg hunt and a monthly dress down day, helped the Executive reach its £1,000 goal.

The money raised by SYPTE will contribute towards Weston Park Cancer Charity’s target of raising £2million this year, which is needed to fund projects to help keep Weston Park Hospital at the forefront of cancer research, treatment and care.

Darren Hayes, Weston Park Cancer Charity’s Business Development Manager, said: “I would like to thank all the staff at SYPTE for their generous support. Weston Park Cancer Charity relies on the generous support of companies like SYPTE to create a better life for cancer patients and their families who are under the care of Weston Park Hospital. We are incredibly grateful for this generous gift which will make a big difference to the lives of cancer patients from across the region both now and in the future.”

Tim Taylor, SYPTE Director of Customer Services, said: “It has been a pleasure to raise money for Weston Park Cancer Charity over the past few months. The charity is extremely deserving of this donation, and we are delighted to have been invited to visit the hospital later in the year to get a glimpse of the fantastic work carried out by the team, as well as to see how our donation has contributed to making a difference.

I’d like to thank all employees at SYPTE for getting involved in our fundraising activities and helping us raise such a life changing amount for this fantastic charity.”
