Festive Public Transport Changes in Sheffield

SOUTH Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) is reminding customers to plan ahead for Christmas and New Year travel in Sheffield, by checking timetables and services on

Most local bus, tram and train services will follow Sunday timetables with an early finish (with last departures from around 6pm) on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. There will be no bus, tram or train services on Christmas Day.

There will be no train services on Boxing Day, but First, Stagecoach and TM Travel will run special bus services in Sheffield funded by Sheffield Bus Partnership, including services X1, connecting Sheffield to Rotherham, Maltby and Wickersley, and X5, connecting Sheffield to South Rotherham. Trams will also operate a special service, which includes free parking at Park and Ride sites.

Between Wednesday 27 and Saturday 30 December, a Saturday service will operate on most local buses and trams, and a normal weekday service on local trains.

On New Year’s Day, First will run a special bus service funded by Sheffield City Council. Trams will also operate a special service, with free parking at Park and Ride sites, and trains will operate with a later start than normal.

Customers travelling by train are encouraged to check with Network Rail or their operating company for any planned engineering works or local service updates.

From Tuesday 26 December until Monday 1 January, holders of SYPTE-issued English National Concessionary Travel Scheme Senior Passes can travel for free on bus and tram, and for half fare on Northern Rail services within South Yorkshire, from the start to end of service

Normal services will resume on 2 January.

Traveline will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. There will be revised opening times at some Travel South Yorkshire Interchanges and Park & Ride sites.
