Two new murals were installed in the waiting areas at Penistone Station in October 2020. The artwork is the result of a community art project aiming to get local people involved in improving the station environment and to deter anti-social behaviour. The colourful murals were created by a local artist Rosie Pearsall with the help of young people from Penistone and its surrounding areas.
The Penistone Line Partnership led the project to both transform the waiting rooms at the station, previously a target for vandalism, and to highlight the sense of community in Penistone. CCTV was also installed at the station to help put a halt to the anti-social behaviour. This community rail project was funded by SYPTE and the Penistone Ward Alliance.
