Have your say on Rotherham bus propsals

Rotherham transport bosses have joined forces in a bid to develop the town's bus services.

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC), South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), and local bus operators First South Yorkshire, Stagecoach Yorkshire, Powells and TM Travel are inviting people to have their say on proposed changes to the town's bus routes.

They have together established the voluntary Rotherham Bus Partnership in the aim to make Rotherham's bus network more simple, flexible and convenient.

Local residents will be given the opportunity to comment on proposals for changes to a number of the town's bus services in a public consultation from Monday 4 November to Monday 2 December 2013.

The proposals include better coordinated timetables across the Partnership's bus services and more services to some areas, with the intention of improving punctuality and building a bus network for Rotherham that best meets customer needs.

People can give their views online at rotherhambuspartnership.co.uk or by filling in a questionnaire, available on most buses or from Travel South Yorkshire Information Centres in Rotherham, Dinnington and Meadowhall.

Passengers can also give their feedback in person and get more information by attending drop-in sessions at:

  • Harthill Village Hall - Thursday 7 Nov, 1600 to 2000
  • Rotherham Interchange - Monday 11 Nov, 0900 to 1200 and Tuesday 12 Nov, 1200 to 1500
  • North Anston Parish Hall - Wednesday 13 Nov, 1600 to 1800
  • Dinnington Interchange - Thurs 14 Nov, 1100 to 1300
  • Kiveton Park and Wales Village Hall - Tuesday 19 Nov, 1400 to 1700

David Young, SYPTE Deputy Interim Director General, said: "Together with our partners we are delighted to establish Rotherham Bus Partnership to offer better bus services for Rotherham's passengers. Adopting this type of approach can help to increase customer satisfaction, improve reliability of services and see more people using the buses to travel to work, education, training, or to visit friends and family.

"The Rotherham Bus Partnership consultation provides an ideal opportunity for people to have their say on how we can best improve Rotherham?s bus network. We are keen to hear from as many people as possible so we can use their comments and suggestions to shape the town's bus services so that they meet our customers' needs."

Coun. Gerald Smith, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Development for Rotherham Borough Council, urged the public to have their say on the proposals. "We know that bus services are vitally important to the lives of people across Rotherham and so the partnership needs to hear the views of the public about these proposals. This is the time for bus-users to attend the events and speak up."

Paul Lynch, Stagecoach Yorkshire Managing Director, said: "We want to hear from as many people as possible during the consultation exercise - their valued contributions will help us to shape the future of bus network in Rotherham."

Ben Gilligan, Managing Director for First in South Yorkshire, said: "Strong partnerships are key to the future success of local bus services. We are absolutely committed to improving our services and delivering customer growth and therefore determined to foster powerful relationships with our local partners in Rotherham and across South Yorkshire - this will help us unlock the full potential of bus travel."

Paul Hopkinson, TM Travel, said: "We think the Partnership is the way forward to improve public transport in Rotherham. It will provide a better forum for engaging bus users for their feedback, and help us to improve service provision by working together."

Jane Powell, Co-Director of Powells, said: "As a local, family run company, we hope to continue to provide our services to the community. The added benefit of a working partnership enhancing our services will make the passenger experience a more enjoyable one. We welcome the opportunity to be a member of this Partnership working with the general public and fellow Operators to ensure that Rotherham achieves and maintains a fully integrated network."?
