Concessionary travel changes this weekend

Enhancements to the concessionary travel scheme for disabled and older people in South Yorkshire will take place on Sunday (8 June).

The improved scheme means senior concessionary pass holders can travel for free on bus and tram, and for half-fare on any single or day-return train journey within South Yorkshire, between 9.30am and 11pm Monday to Friday and all day on weekends and Bank Holidays.

Disabled pass holders, and where eligible their carers, can travel for free on any bus, tram and train within South Yorkshire, and from a South Yorkshire train station into West Yorkshire on Northern Rail services, at any time.

Reductions were made to the region’s concessionary scheme on 31 March as a result of Government funding cuts to the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive budget.

The reductions restricted free travel by bus and tram for disabled and senior pass holders to between 9.30am and 11pm on Monday to Friday, and all day on weekends and Bank Holidays, and removed concessionary train travel from the scheme.

The concessionary enhancements are being introduced in response to customer feedback raised since the reductions were made, and were approved by Sheffield City Region Combined Authority Transport Committee at their inaugural meeting on Monday 19 May.
