Essential engineering works to prepare South Yorkshire’s Supertram system for Tram Train will take place over Easter weekend, to set the pioneering UK pilot scheme on track for 2018.
Revised Supertram services are planned to operate on Sunday 16 and Monday 17 April 2017. On the Yellow route, trams will operate to a normal Sunday timetable but only between Tinsley/Meadowhall South and Middlewood. On the Purple route trams will operate between Herdings Park and Cathedral to an amended timetable. Blue Route Supertram services between Malin Bridge and Halfway are unaffected.
Dedicated bus services will replace trams between Tinsley/Meadowhall South and Meadowhall Interchange Stand D2 during the works. Timetable information can be found online at supertram.com and travelsouthyorkshire.com; via Traveline on 01709 51 51 51; and on posters at tram stops. For live travel updates on Twitter see @SCSupertram and @TSYalerts.
Tram Train services will provide a direct connection between Sheffield City Centre, Rotherham Central and Parkgate, travelling on Supertram lines and the national rail network.
Overnight engineering work to prepare the Supertram system for Tram Train has been underway since October 2015. However, more complex work can only be completed during daylight hours and over weekends.
The pilot is delivered by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), Stagecoach Supertram, Network Rail, Arriva Rail North, and the Department for Transport.
