SOUTH Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) is reminding customers to plan ahead for Christmas and New Year travel in Rotherham, by checking timetables and services on travelsouthyorkshire.com/christmas.
“Most local bus and tram train services will follow Saturday timetables with an early finish (with last departures from around 5:30pm) on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve”, says SYPTE’s Director of Customer Services Tim Taylor. “Trains will operate a normal service with last departures between 7pm and 8pm”.
“There will be no bus, tram train or train services on Christmas Day or Boxing Day in Rotherham, except for Stagecoach operating a service to and from XPO Logistics for shift times on both days and the X1 service between Maltby and Sheffield centre on Boxing Day, which will pick up passengers on Corporation Street, Rotherham, on both directions.”
“Bus and tram services will be operating reduced services in Sheffield on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. With free parking charges at the city’s Park and Ride sites it might be a great time to get out and about to meet friends or check out the sales.”
Apart from Christmas Day and Boxing Day, bus and tram train services will mostly operate a Saturday service from Christmas Eve until New Year’s eve, except from Sunday 30 December, when they’ll operate a Sunday Service. Train services will resume their normal timetable on Thursday 27 and Friday28 December, after a late start.
There will be no bus services on New Year’s Day, except for Stagecoach operating bus services to and from XPO Logistics for shift times. Trains will operate as normal after a late start and tram-train services will operate a special timetable from around 8:30am until around 6:30pm.
Train and tram train services will be back to normal on Wednesday 2 January. Bus services will operate a Saturday timetable with a few exceptions on Wednesday 2, Thursday 3 and Friday 4 January.
Trains are expected to be busier than usual and customers are encouraged to check with National Rail or their operating company for any planned engineering works or local service updates.
From Tuesday 25 December until Tuesday 1 January, holders of SYPTE-issued English National Concessionary Travel Scheme Senior Passes can travel for free on bus and tram, and for half fare on Northern Rail services within South Yorkshire, with no restrictions, from the start to end of service.
